About

Lauren Heusler

Rooted in a deep connection to the land, Lauren’s work is a reflection of a lifelong relationship with farming, agriculture, and land stewardship. Her hands-on experience in these fields has shaped not only a profound understanding of plant life but also an evolving practice grounded in plant wisdom. This knowledge naturally guided her toward the world of plant dyes, tanning hides and basketry, eventually unfolding into a broader textile art practice that honors the land from which it emerges.

Lauren’s creative process is deeply informed by principles of land reciprocity, ecological integrity, and Indigenous land stewardship practices. She approaches her work as a dialogue with the environment— an ongoing exchange that emphasizes respect, responsibility, and regeneration. Her materials and methods are chosen with care, aiming to tread lightly and create in rhythm with natural cycles.

More recently, Lauren’s curiosity has extended into the study of animal migrations as a lens for understanding ecological balance and environmental change. This new area of inquiry complements her broader interests, linking the movement of animals with the movement of knowledge, tradition, and the ever-evolving relationship between humans and the earth.

Lauren’s practice weaves together ecology, environmentalism, and art—always grounded in the living systems that sustain and inspire her.
